Places to Age News - August 7, 2024

We are pleased to announce that Places to Age has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) with the City of Salida. When referring to this MoU agreement, Mayor Dan Shore stated at last night's council meeting "it is amazing what can be accomplished when there is cooperation".

We sincerely appreciate all the help and support from Salida City Staff and the Salida City Council. This agreement outlines the roles and responsibilities of Places to Age and the City related to the development of our senior housing project. If you would like details of this MoU please click this link. If you have questions, please email  info@placestoage.org - we'd be happy to answer any of your questions.

This is another good step in making this project a reality. But make no mistake, it's a long road ahead.

Places to Age News - June 3, 2024

We received notice that Next50 has given Places to Age a $75,000 Grant to support our efforts to bring assisted living and memory care to Chaffee County. These funds will be used to hire industry experts to help us build out both development and operational proforma and develop the capital stack.

Next50 supports the economic well-being of older adults and the organizations that serve them through systems-level and programmatic innovations. Places to Age is thrilled with this grant and appreciates Next50's vision and work.

Places to Age News - November 28, 2023 & the postscript

postscript: Because of the generous donations from many community members we raised the funds to hire an engineer (the excellent Mr. Bill Hussey) and we were successful in submitting the extensive paperwork for both annexation and zoning requests. In early July the annexation and zoning paperwork were deemed "in substantial compliance". We presented to the Salida Planning Commission and received unanimous approval for our project, with the next step being to recommend for approval to the Salida City Council. We have had two readings at the council and will have the public hearing on August 20, 2024.

We have very good news to share!

People agree that Chaffee County needs much better housing options for the older adults in our community who need caregiving services. In support of this goal, Places to Age is being given a generous donation of a 10-acre parcel near Salida. The land is located between CR-120 and CR-140 and is relatively close to downtown and the hospital. This 10-acre parcel is being donated to support seniors and senior housing in our community.

Our goal is to eventually build senior housing with a rich array of caregiving services or potentially an Assisted Living and Memory Care facility on this 10-acre parcel. However, before Places to Age can plan any development for seniors, we will need to have this land annexed into the City of Salida.

Currently, we need to raise approximately $15,000 for our portion of the annexation costs. The overall annexation costs will include the pre-engineering, infrastructure planning, city annexation fees, associated legal fees, etc. Every donation helps and your gift is tax-deductible through the Chaffee County Community Foundation as our fiscal sponsor - PLEASE DONATE NOW
